Bussman is well known across Europe for his ability to draw unexpected ‘magic moments’ from cast and crew, whilst combining this spontaneity with immaculate pre-production and client-friendly clarity.
Bussman reveals his unique directing style: “After meticulous pre-production planning, I try to leave room for improvisation so that I can freestyle whenever possible. My crew stays on their toes so that we are always able to quickly turn the camera to get that special little piece that was missing before”.
Bussman became part of the film industry as soon as he left school. Describing himself as a “film maniac who’d shoot anything that happened to pass in front of his Video8 camera”, he began by directing art works, video installations and experimental short films. This passion led him to a film production internship which, from 1996 onwards, took him into editing and post production. By the time he’d reached 25, he’d begun to direct commercials. As an ambitious and young director he has developed a subtle taste for storytelling connecting his typical distant look with appealing situations.
